"Don’t miss this strange, special little film."

— Peter Debruge, Variety

"By the film's end, it feels like the cinematic equivalent of a hug."

— Monica Castillo, TheWrap

"Many films claim to be an antidote to this moment in history, but Marcel's flick might be the first one I've seen in the past two years that actually fits that bill."

— Lovia Gyarkye, Hollywood Reporter

"Marcel the Shell seamlessly marries big ideas with charm and humor (and inventive stop-motion work to boot). In short, it’s the cutest film about familial grief you’ll see all year, perhaps ever"

— Kate Erbland, IndieWire

"It's easy to imagine this becoming a favorite movie for curious, creative kids and their cineaste parents — a cute, sweet, funny, imaginative tale dressed up like reality, an ode to survivors and the power of community."

— Jacob HallMar, Slashfilm

"What you'll scope out in this small marvel of a mockumentary is how Marcel copes with loss of family, loneliness and sudden media fame, and how he relates, on 60 Minutes, to Lesley Stahl. I can't wait to see it and him again."

— Joe Morgenstern, Wall Street Journal

"Marcel the Shell With Shoes On is a film with much to offer when it comes to lessons and laughs. It even handles its primary themes about loss, grief and community with humor and grace, an approach that, these days, seems especially hard to find."

— Lovia Gyarkye, The Hollywood Reporter
